Oddities & anatomy gifts
A cabinet of curiosities, one shelf at a time.
Every oddities collector is building a small museum, whether or not they admit it. The best gift is the next accession: something that makes the existing shelf look more deliberate.
This list is built in three layers, the way a cabinet usually gets built. First the backdrop: vintage anatomy plates for the wall, framed, laminated or printed over old dictionary pages, which make everything in front of them look intentional. Then the stand-ins: a life-size resin skull, a numbered anatomical heart model, an anatomical heart pen holder, all durable and dust-proof. Then the real thing: genuine specimens sealed in resin or pinned behind glass, a bat, an octopus, a set of marine creatures, a feline skull, a death’s-head moth in a coffin-shaped case.
The real specimens are sold as natural science-classroom items, so each one varies. Each pick links to its catalog notes, where we flag what the listing does and does not confirm. The listing and current price are on Amazon.
